2017 Birds of Prey Friendly - Vultures vs Harriers
March 18th, 2017
The 8th Annual "Birds of Prey" match between the Kenosha Vultures and the Lake Forest Harriers was held at the old Halas Hall in Lake Forest, IL. For those non-Chicago Bear fans, the old Halas Hall field is where the greatest team in NFL history, the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears practiced. It was an honor to be able to contest our match at a place like the old Halas Hall.
After a week of heavy snow and terrible field conditions the Vultures went into the game with very limited practice and very limited experience. In fact, there were 6 players who played their very first game of rugby on Saturday! The new players did not hesitate to make an impact on the team and game. Being a friendly match, we used this as an opportunity to try players at new positions and evaluate our strengths to determine the style of play we will play this year.
The Vultures showed their grit on defense against a strong Harrier Rugby Team and showed some glimpses of great rugby when on offense. The overall game was unpolished and sloppy at times, but makings of a very good team are there. What stood out most was the Vultures control of their attitude when things did not go the way they wanted and their never give up attitude.
A huge thank you goes out to John Walker and the Lake Forest Harrier Rugby team for organizing this year's Birds of Prey friendly and being great hosts. We wish you the best in your upcoming season and look forward to seeing you guys in Kenosha next spring.
